I taught mostly from Kings 18- and then covered the verses from the Mass as well as Rock City Corpus and a few from Church Unlimited.
Being I taught an entire study on Kings- I will simply add those teachings below.
The theme was in keeping with the last Sunday Sermon post- https://ccoutreach87.com/2018/08/12/sunday-sermon-8-12-18/
And the verses showed God’s provisions- for his people- and how in the case of Elijah an angel actually provided Bread and water for the discouraged prophet-
1Kings 19:5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
1Kings 19:6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
1Kings 19:7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
The passage from John [6] and the psalms spoke of he heavenly Bread- and the provision- as well as angelic intervention.
From the Psalms we read-
Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
We see both the angel of the Lord- and the table that God provides.
In Elijah’s case- he was at the end of his rope- and was ready to die.
Yet the angel fed him- twice.
To me this is also a type of the second meal- or New testament.
The first meal had a purpose- it was to supply us in a way- until the 2nd table would be set.
The meal of ‘the law’ had a purpose, but until you find the 2nd meal- the 2nd covenant in His Blood- you will never be empowered for the long journey ahead.
It is the table of Grace that sustains us- it is this table that the Psalmist spoke about in the reading for this day.
God calls us to come- to taste- and to see- the goodness of the Lord.
And when we partake of that heavenly bread- we will be empowered to go the 2nd mile-

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.

This is a famous chapter for bible readers- Elijah has a showdown with the false prophets- and wins.
Instead of commenting on the whole chapter- I want to hit on a few points.
We see Elijah as a messenger of God- and in this victory- we also see a foreshadowing of the future sacrifice of Christ to come.
Elijah has a bull- and he places his sacrifice on an altar dedicated to God [a type of the Cross]
Hebrews 13:10
We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

The false prophets have a bull too- but they have no water- like Elijah-
1Kings 18:33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.
They also have no fire- like Elijah-
1Kings 18:38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
The false prophets have a dead animal- and they call on Baal all day- and there is no fire coming down from heaven-
Then Elijah calls upon the true God- and fire [a type of the Holy Spirit] comes down [Spirit descending]- the sacrifice was acceptable to God [a type of the Lamb to come] and the water that Elijah had poured all around the altar- was also a sign of the baptism of Jesus.
We see 3 elements in the sacrifice of Elijah that God accepted-
1- a sacrifice [body]
2- fire [Spirit]
3- and water
In the new testament baptism of Jesus we see God the father confirming his own Son-
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matt. 3
We see the Spirit descend upon Jesus- and of course we see the water that Jesus was baptized in-
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

The new Testament speaks of these as witnesses themselves- Jesus being the one acceptable sacrifice for the sins of man- a 3 fold witness of the Son- [Elijah poured the water- 3 times]
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
As the chapter closes we see another well known event.
Elijah prays for rain- and he sends his servant to see if any rain is on the way-
The servant looks 7 times- and on the 7th time- he sees a cloud-
1Kings 18:43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
1Kings 18:44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
Then the bible tells us the sky was dark-
1Kings 18:45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
Which also happened on the day when the Son of God was crucified for us all-
Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Yes- Elijah won the famous battle at Mount Carmel this day- we recount the story to our kids in Sunday school-
But most of all- as the true prophet of God- he pointed to the messiah that was to come-
Yes- he fulfilled his mission on this day- in more ways than one.
2Kings 2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
2Kings 2:10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
2Kings 2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

FRANK EDWING-
The other day I found out that a good friend of mine passed away- his name was Frank Edwing.
I saw a missed call from his brother Fred- then saw that frank died while I was reading Facebook.
I did talk about it on the many videos I do- and even had an old picture of Frank [5 years ago] that I showed.
But I realize that some of his friends and family don’t get a chance to watch my videos- so I wanted to write this brief post.
I was good friends with Frank’s younger brother Fred- while growing up in New Jersey- and when I started going back to New Jersey about 5 years ago- I became good friends with Frank.
Frank must have struggled with being homeless for some part of his life- while we hung out on the streets of Hackensack- he showed me all the places where the homeless go- and we spent some good times together.
Every now and then Frank would ‘like’ the videos I posted on Facebook- the ones where he saw my homeless friends here in Texas.
It was a shock to have learned that Frank went home to be with the Lord- I considered him a good friend- he will be missed.
P.S.
Frank [and Fred’s] dad wrote for the famous Mad magazine- yes- his name in the magazine went by ‘Duck Edwing’- he was a great illustrator- and I remember as kids that Fred told me about this- and Frank recently added me to the fan club they had going for his dad.
I told one of the firefighters years ago- that my friend’s dad wrote for the magazine- the firefighter used to read it at work.
I think he didn’t believe me- then came back later with an article Frank’s dad made-
Sure enough- it had the Edwing name on it.
