Teaching- [Past posts below]

Today was a little different- I was helping my daughter run an errand- and we stopped in the middle and made the teaching video.

It was a good view- right off C.C. bay.

I did manage to review the Catholic verses for this Sunday- and also shared some from Church Unlimited as well as cccf [Pastor Don].

If we were to take all the verses from these 3 services and tied them in to a common theme-

I guess it would be about Jesus- and the messenger of the covenant.-

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Both Church Unlimited and CCCF spoke on the prayer of Jesus in John 17-

That we would be one- a unified people- a unified church-

John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

From the Mass we see the prophecy of Malachi-

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the LORD, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

Malachi 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

Malachi 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.

Malachi 3:4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

It speaks of both John the Baptist- and Jesus.

Malachi tells us that Jesus will purge the sons of Levi so they will be able to bring a true offering to God.

Levi represents the priests of the law- which could never bring in true righteousness.

Jesus- the messenger of the covenant- will bring it in thru his death on the cross.

The passage from Hebrews [Mass verse] shows us how this will be done-

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Hebrews 2:15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Hebrews 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Hebrews 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Hebrews 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

Jesus took upon himself human flesh- he did not come as a angel- a spirit- but as a man.

He did this so he could die and pay the penalty for our sins.

He can also identify with us- because he too suffered the temptations that we experience- yet he never sinned-

Hebrews 4:15

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Making him the sinless one who died for us.

The passage from Luke’s gospel spoke of 2 witnesses of Jesus when his mother brought him to the temple to dedicate him to God-

Luke 2:22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

Luke 2:23 (As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

Luke 2:24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

Luke 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

Luke 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Luke 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

Luke 2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

Luke 2:29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

Luke 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

Luke 2:31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

Luke 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

Luke 2:33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

Luke 2:34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

Luke 2:35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

Luke 2:36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

Luke 2:37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

Luke 2:38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

We see both a man [Simeon]- and a woman [Anna]- prophesy that Jesus is the salvation to come.

The bible tells us in the mouth of 2 or more witnesses every word shall be established-

Matthew 18:15-17 [Full Chapter]

Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

Jesus- the true priest from Judah- was the messenger Malachi spoke about hundreds of years before.

Simeon- he also was told that he would not die until he saw the promise- when Mary brought the child to the temple- the Spirit said ‘this is the one’.

He spoke a hard word to Jesus mother-

Luke 2:35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

As the young child grew in wisdom and grace she watched her son- she pondered the things spoken about him over time-

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. Lk. 2

Then the day when the prophecy of Malachi would come true- the day the messenger of the covenant would bring in true righteousness-

This was the same day that the prophecy of Simeon would come true-

The pierced soul.

Mary kept these things in her heart- God was preparing her as well-

She witnessed the event- the bringing in of a better covenant established on better promises.

His mother watched the prophecy come to pass- her Son spoke to her from the cross-

John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

John 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

John 19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Yes the sword would cut into her soul as Simeon said-

.

Simeon and Anna- Malachi as well- they were all waiting for the promise-

And it came to pass- at great cost- not only to the soul of Mary- but for the Son who hung on the Cross-

2 souls were effected that day- one was pierced- the other was poured out-

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. [Some sites see here  https://ccoutreach87.blogspot.com/2024/02/sunday-sermon-text.html ]
