TEACHING-

I made the video on the way into Rock City Church- and only spoke on the verses from this Sunday’s mass.
I talked about most of the verses from the Mass [added below] but will only focus on one part now-
It was the story of Abraham and when he was tested by God to offer up Issac-
Genesis 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Genesis 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
Most of us are familiar with the story- God made promises to Abraham that one day he would have a son- and thru that son the world would be blessed.

The apostle Paul teaches this in his letters- that the ultimate fulfillment would come thru Jesus.
After many years of waiting- the promised son Issac was born-
And then the test- God tells him to offer this son on the altar.

Why?

In Hebrews we read-
Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Hebrews 11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Hebrews 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
Abraham was a type of God the father- Issac a type of Jesus the son.
We often see the symbol of the son in this story- that’s not hard.
But what about the father?

For Abraham to have fulfilled the symbol of God the Father- he had to come to a point in the journey where he would actually believe that if he offered Issac- that God would raise him from the dead-

Hebrews 11:19 Accounting that God was able to raise him up,

And after many years- Abraham did indeed get to the point in his life where he trusted God- that in his mind he simply figured God would raise the boy from the dead, look what he said on the day of the test-
Genesis 22:5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
He believed he would come back- after the offering- with the same boy that he offered.

The theme from the other verses spoke about Jesus the Son who died for us all.
Yet in the story of Abraham- we also see a Father- a Father who would seem to be wiling to do the unthinkable-

A father who loved his son- and yet- because of the greater purpose of God- would be willing to offer his son in obedience.
In the story of Abraham it was only a test- he passed the test.

In the story of God and his Son- it was real.
The Son did indeed die- and was raised back from the dead- so the initial promise made to Abraham would some day be fulfilled- all the nations of the earth are now blessed thru the seed of Abraham-

Jesus- the Christ

Galatians 3:16
Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
